Remembered/Imagined is launched

McFall's is delighted to be the performing partner in Remembered/Imagined Productions unique and exciting project which sees three composers pair up with three writers to create new work. Also in partnership with Distil. The artists are:

Amble Skuse & Angus Peter Campbell
Mike Vass & Charlotte Murray
Ailie Robertson & Rebecca Sharp

During the Autumn of 2013 they will spend time working in the beautiful archive at The School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh. The archive is a treasure trove of materials relating to the cultural life and traditional arts of Scotland. Over the past sixty years fieldworkers have collected thousands of recordings of songs, music, tales, verse customs, beliefs and oral history. A selection of these recordings can be listened to online at Tobar an Dulchais or, in Scots, Kist o' Riches.

The archive is a treasure trove of materials relating to the cultural life and traditional arts of Scotland. Over the past sixty years fieldworkers have collected thousands of recordings of songs, music, tales, verse customs, beliefs and oral history.

The artists will create their own responses to this special source material, resulting in three new works for strings, singer and/or narrator and electronics. McFall's looks forward to touring the new programme across Scotland in March 2014, bringing a little bit of the archive back out to the communities from which it originated.

It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with singer Maeve Mackinnon on this project.

Growing out of her individual success as a composer, Amble Skuse set up Remembered / Imagined Productions in 2013. This production company puts the artist at the heart of the project, focusing on the creative process and allowing time and space for imagination, reflection, discussion, trial and error and a playful approach. This process aims to explore how we find creativity, and supports artists in defining conditions which support their work. The Creative Incubator is the name given to this process, including opportunities for artists to create a supportive network, and access activities and training to help develop skills. Collaborative commissions encourage artists to work across artforms and genres, drawing from different creative approaches to further their practice. Mentors from the top of their disciplines support the collaborations, challenging the artists and providing support.
